Decocking a Mission Crossbow
Mission recommends firing into a discharge target to safely decock rather than using a dedicated de-cocking bolt, per owner-reported guidance from Mission on at least one model.
The Safe Way to Decock
Fire the bow into an approved discharge target or a safe backstop rather than trying to manually let the string down by hand - crossbows store far more energy than compound bows and a slow, controlled de-cock by hand is not something most crossbow designs are built for. If your cocking device has a specific decocking procedure (some crank systems do), follow your model's manual exactly rather than improvising.
What Owners Report
Ive only shot it a few times but the cocking is inconsistent. by putting on safety before cocking and so far it works when I do that.crossbownation.com
What is the name for when your cocking rope goes into the action of your crossbow and jams? I though I new some stuff about crossbows but I ...r/Archery
If cocking feels inconsistent, check that the safety is engaged before you start cocking - at least one Sub-1 XR owner traced an inconsistent-cocking issue to that exact step. For general known issues, see Mission crossbow problems, and for cocking tools, see cocking devices and cocking ropes.
